The area surrounding the pond near the headquarters building at Smoky Hill Weapons Range bustled with activity Aug. 26 during an outdoor youth camp put on by the Kansas Department of Wildlife Parks and Tourism.

About 180 children and their families participated in the one-day camp, enjoying activities that included archery, fishing and shooting. A paintball booth and a hatchet throwing area were also available. Continue reading

Soldiers, Airmen compete in 2017 TAG Marksmanship Match

More than 80 Soldiers and Airmen from across Kansas took aim downrange at the Kansas National Guard Weapons Range in Salina, Kansas, on Sept. 14. They competed for top honors in the annual Kansas Adjutant General’s Marksmanship Match, commonly known as the TAG Match.

The TAG Match is a marksmanship competition that tests the skill of using pistols and rifles. Continue reading

Kansas Air National Guard reinforces Texas responders

WICHITA—Airmen assigned to the 184th Intelligence Wing reported to McConnell Air Force Base, Kansas, Aug. 31, to assist in the ongoing relief efforts following Hurricane Harvey in southeast Texas.

The Category 4 hurricane reached its full intensity right as it made landfall Aug. 25 near Rockport, Texas.

Four days of concentrated rainfall caused catastrophic flooding in the region, engulfing thousands of homes and causing massive evacuations. Continue reading
