Kansas Air National Guard leader speaks on the importance of cyber security

The Kansas Air National Guard visited Wichita State University students and members of the Wichita cyber security community on Jan. 29.

Brig. Gen. David Weishaar, assistant adjutant general – Air, Kansas National Guard, spoke about the cyber threat responsibilities for the Kansas National Guard. Weishaar was invited to speak as a part of WSU’s Sleepless Nights Speaker Series, a Wichita community series that focuses on cybersecurity.

The 184th Logistics Readiness Squadron

MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kansas. — The National Guard Bureau has named the 184th Logistics Readiness Squadron as the 2018 Air National Guard LRS Squadron of the Year for an non-flying unit.  The 184th Emergency Management Flight, Civil Engineer Squadron, was also designated as the 2019 Air National Guard Emergency Management Flight of the Year.

Enlisted All Call Sparks Mentorship at 184th Wing

The 184th Wing enlisted councils hosted an all call at McConnell Air Force Base on Jan. 5 to emphasize the importance of mentorship and interpersonal relationships.

The three enlisted councils include the Airman’s Council, Noncommissioned Officer’s Council, and Top 3 Council. Enlisted councils provide a networking outlet and professional development opportunities that coincide with the levels of rank and experience.

Research says that around 60 percent of the public use the beginning of a new year to try to make changes in our life. Unfortunately, only about 8 percent of those who make a New Year’s resolutions are successful in achieving them.

One of those positive but rarely successful changes is exercising and getting fit.

Recent achievements: 184th Wing Airman of the Year and 184th Wing Honor Guard Member of the Year.

My story: Growing up, joining the military was one of the first goals I remember setting when I was 12 years old. In school, I ran long-distance and enjoyed mental/physical challenges. I hoped to enlist after high school. Turned out, life had different plans for me—an ACL reconstruction at 18 years old. A few years later I happened to mention to a friend that I was still interested in serving but was looking for a unit that was organized and competent. He recommended I talk to the 184th recruiting team and I was blown away with that first impression. Out of all the recruiters I had spoken to from every single branch, the 184th was the unit I was looking for.
